On Friday, Sept. 15, parking spaces around the globe to be temporarily reclaimed for people!
Our 9th annual PARK(ing) Day PHX is a day for community activists, neighborhood leaders and urban planners throughout the city to step up to the curb-literally, to put a quarter in the meter, and transform metered parking spaces into temporary public parks and other social spaces, as part of an annual event called «PARK(ing) Day» that takes place in cities around the globe.
Set up begins promptly at 6:00 a.m. PARKS should be totally set up by 6:45 a.m. Tear down at 9:45 a.m. We typically have live news on site at 6:00 a.m., so please be on time. :)
NEW FOR 2017: Please plan your PARK to include a streetside BUFFER. This could be potted trees/plants, or anything stable that will not tip over into traffic. We're also asking that everyone who can participate come to this block for big impact! Rogue PARKS are encouraged at other times throughout the day, but we prefer a group effort during Friday morning rush hour, so ask that you join us for the main event.
Parking spaces are much bigger than you think, so feel free to team up with others. We will be confirming all PARKS for placement and media, so please be serious about showing up if you confirm.
Think BIG. Think CREATIVE. Bring your french press and a hibachi. Theme out your park (in years past we've had a Willy Wonka park, an eco-fessional, a croquet park, a mini trampoline park, music park, art park, yoga park, badminton and even the Dixieland Devils park). Sod, astroturf, umbrellas, potted plants, art, games, bubbles… What would your little urban button park look like? A hammock would be nice!
The only rules are that you may not SELL or ADVERTISE. This is just for community awareness and FUN. Save your company banner for the trade shows! T-shirts with company logos are allowed, but that's it.
Please invite others and share.
Share your ideas on the Facebook page too!
