of Artist Exhibition “Las Fronteras Nos Dividen, Pero El Arte Nos Une"

Saturday, September 2nd
6pm — 10pm @ The Sagrado Galleria. Featuring artwork by Giovana Aviles, Carla Chavarria, Isela Meraz and Gloria Martinez-Casillas.

The four of us have crossed life paths and we have also crossed another thing, the border. We have experienced the beauty and hardships one has as an undocumented immigrant in the United States. We have also found the healing powers of Art. Together we want to share our stories utilizing textiles, water paintings, beads, photography and multi-media.

A three part experiential exhibition with a panel to create more connections with our community and a Video Booth with the hope to hear more stories along the way! JOIN US!

PANEL:
“Las Fronteras Nos Dividen, Pero El Arte Nos Une”
Date: 9/6/2017
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Panel Participants: Giovana Aviles, Carla Chavarria, Isela Meraz
and Gloria Martinez-Casillas

Attacks on the immigrant community have caused many to fear and suffer in silence. Criminalizing portrayals of our people continue to spread and divide. Join Carla, Giovana, Gloria and Chela in this panel. They will be sharing their stories and how art has played a role in their healing through creative expression.

The panel will be moderated by the amazing and chingona Marisa Franco, who will also be sharing the importance of art in the movement and grassroots organizations.

You won't want to miss this important conversation, trust!

«Sharing our stories is important because if we don’t tell them, then somebody else will.»

VIDEO BOOTH:
“Las Fronteras Nos Dividen, Pero El Arte Nos Une”
Date: 9/16/2017
Time: 9am-1pm

Story telling is a way of telling the world that we exist, a way shape conversations to write our own history books. This is what this exhibit is about; it’s about empowering ourselves through the use of story telling. Everyone has a story to tell, and we want to hear yours. On September we will be having a video booth at The Sagrado Galleria, where we want YOU (yes, you!) to come share a piece of your story. We want to hear what drives you to continue to fight every day, we want to hear what inspires you, the heart breaks, the success and the beauty of your journey in this country. Come share your story with us!
