“GRAMMY NOMINATED GUITARIST DOC POWELL”

After twenty‐five + years of being in the music business, Grammy Nominated Guitarist Doc Powell signature guitar sound is sealed in music history on over 200 songs by some of the biggest artists in every genre of music. He is the recipient of over 12 gold & platinum records and has a personal song catalogue of over 60 titles.

Fifteen years of recording and touring with the Pavarotti of soul Luther Vandross, laid the foundation for a career of performing alongside music royalty such as: Prince, Chaka Kahn, Patti Labelle, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, George Clinton, Alicia Keys, Jennifer Hudson, Ledisi, Marvin Sapp, Snoop Dog, Grover Washington Jr., Wycliffe Jean, Anita Baker, John Legend, Kirk Franklin, Tamela Mann, Marvin Sapp, Yolanda Adams & Mary, Mary. His previous solo recordings have featured guest performances by Dave Koz, Sheila E, George Duke, Boney James, Harvey Mason, Patrice Rushen, Kirk Whalum, Bob James, Billy Preston, Ronnie Laws, Gerald Albright, Jeffrey Osborne and Marcus Miller – making him one of smooth jazz audiences favorite artists from California to New York to Japan to South Africa.

For many, these accomplishments would be enough, but for this trailblazing artist who has always gone out on the limb to make music that touch the souls of listeners, returns after a six-year hiatus with his 12th project THIS IS SOUL. This project Powell makes it clear why the late, great Luther Vandross sang on his hit song (She Loves You Back)… “This man is the Doctor, this man sure nuff is the Doctor. The first single, a remake of Beyonce’s giant hit Love On Top, was a hit a second time around and quickly climbed up Billboard’s top 20 smooth jazz charts where it stayed for 8 weeks. It was co-produced with multi-award winning producer James “Big Jim” Wright (Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson) and hot new music producer Daniel Moore. THIS IS SOUL features legendary pianist/composer/multi-award winner Patrice Rushen, the original dream girl Ms. Jennifer Holliday, keyboard extraordinaire Myron McKinley, (E W & F musical director) and gospel sensation Nikki Ross (Kirk Franklin). The new single So Cool, has already reached #26 on the Billboard chart and is steadily climbing. It is a soulful play on a Powell original in a way that only the Doctor can do, with an urban-jazz sass between trumpet and upright bass.

«Spooky Kool»

Hello! We are Spooky Kool, Your Friend in the Spiritual Age, and we are a Globally recognized, Phoenix-Based band. We write, record, and perform original compositions along with a sample of updated Jazz Standards.

The name, “Spooky Kool” was born from a conversation in New Orleans, when Gabriel Bey was visiting in 2007 and was asked an esoteric question and replied with spiritual insights as his answer. One of the participants stated, “…that was SPOOKY, but man was that KOOL.” The term was adopted and taken back to Phoenix were the band began its humble beginnings. Ironically, the band manifested in the desert vortex of Arizona, and much like a Phoenix rising from a fire, the band become, Spooky Kool, Your Friend in the Spiritual Age.

The very first performances for Spooky Kool came to the sports lovers in Downtown Phoenix where they could drink and be merry before and/or after a game. The band performed Chants and would Ad Lib music that was created spontaneously with little prep or direction. We began chanting OM at the beginning of every performance, but OM had a different meaning to Spooky Kool. It stood for “Original Music!”
