So, it should be known that I belong to a family of geeks. Because of this, I wanted to expand and extend the Puppet Pie workshops into that realm of geekdom--which means bringing in my dear and talented friend, Dain Q. Gore to teach a wonderful workshop about painting Gaming Miniatures (if you're unfamiliar, think Dungeons & Dragons or Pathfinder. If that doesn't help you, think very tiny detailed sculptures...and if that doesn't help you, look at the photos of the minis that Dain painted).
WHAT: Learn the basics of painting gaming miniatures! Art professor Dain Q. Gore and captain of his D&D minis painting coalition (that last part is made-up) will guide you through a miniatures painting workshop, with a special focus on armor, and provide a brief history of minis, because he's knowledgeable like that.
You will be provided with brushes, paint, step-by-step instructions to use during the workshop; and a primed, ready-to-paint fantasy miniature to bring home (completed, of course). (Everyone will receive the same miniature so as to learn the same skills.)
Spaces in this workshop are extremely limited, so if you want to do this, sign up while you still see the listing available!
WHEN: Sunday, February 11th, 1pm-4pm
WHERE: Puppet Pie Studio, 1301 Grand Avenue, Studio 4, Phoenix, AZ 85007. The entrance is on the south side of the building (on McKinley), to the left of the heart mural. Follow the signs on McKinley. There will be signs, don't worry. (You can also find a map through the menu navigation at the top of this page: Contact > Visit.) Doors open 15-20 minutes prior to the workshop.
SKILLS REQUIRED: Sitting respectfully for up to 3 hours, painting small surfaces with small tools (fine motor skills), staring at something very small for a long period of time (bring your readers!), waiting for instructions (the most difficult skill to master when you're a grown up)
WHO: This workshop is designed for well-behaved teens and adults.
About the Instructor: Dain is a painter, art professor, and part-time puppeteer. In his spare time he paints “toy soldier” fantasy and sci-fi gaming miniatures, which he has been doing since 1988. He specializes in bright and ostentatious color schemes, and prefers painting Citadel and Reaper miniatures. Mr. Gore has shown his art from Beijing, China to Meow Wolf in Santa Fe and has lectured at ASU and performed with The Great Arizona Puppet Theater.
Extra Details: One purchase is required for each person in attendance.
