Workshop: 7-8pm ($5-$10 sliding scale, no one will be turned away)
Open Mic: 8:30-9:30pm Free
March's Off The Page workshop and open mic will be lead by Eunique Yazzie! The workshop will be in the form of a story circle, allowing space for a fluid conversation about empowering others through personal experiences and story. But what actually constitutes a story? How do we craft a story that truly engages our audience? We will explore these questions and more in this workshop.
If art imitates life, Eunique Yazzie's palette is one that breathes new life and purpose into the arts and culture community; she is part of the collective Mujeres Del Sol, on the board of Emerging Arts Leaders Phoenix and owner of Eunique Design, a full-time graphic design service. She has worked with Republic Media, NAU and ASU and completed projects for Phoenix Indian Center, Mujeres del Sol, Palabras Libreria and many others. Eunique – who grew up in Flagstaff, South Dakota and Chinle, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation – brings cultural perspective and appreciation to her work and activism.
Wasted Ink Zine Distro's «Off the Page» is a monthly spoken word workshop and open mic offering local Arizona poets, writers, and storytellers opportunities to create, present, and publish their work in a brave space. A brave space is grounded in self-awareness and those in that space place themselves in positions of vulnerability as a form of collective action. It is a commitment that our words be one of many doorways to larger community driven conversations.
Performance priority for our open mic will be given to those who attend the workshop.
Special thanks to the event creators Anastasia Freyermuth, Charissa Lucille, and Joy Young.
